Mammography Patient Preparation / Instructions

  1. Do not wear any deodorant, talcum powder, perfume or lotion under the breasts or underarms the day of your examination.
    This may produce artifacts on the images obtained.
  2. Inform the technologist of any problem or concern you have with regards to your breasts before the start of your examination.
    We may need to modify the examination depending on your symptoms.
  3. Before the examination you will be asked to undress from the waist up and you will be provided a gown for the exam. It is best to wear 2-piece clothing the day of the exam.
  4. Please inform the technologist before the exam if there is any possibility of pregnancy.

Bone Mineral Density Patient Instructions

  1. Please inform the technologist before the exam if there is any possibility of pregnancy.
  2. This test should not be scheduled within 7 days following a nuclear medicine bone scan or any x-ray study which used IV contrast or barium as those can possibly interfere with the machine's interpretation.

Abdominal Ultrasound Patient Instructions

  1. For adults, nothing to eat or drink 8 hours before the examination.
  2. You may take your regular medications with small sips of water.
  3. If you are insulin dependent diabetic please consult with your referring health care provider before the examination for instructions for insulin injections.
  4. You may brush your teeth. No chewing gum please.

Aortic, Testicular, Venous Ultrasound Patient Instructions

  1. No preparation necessary.

Pelvic Ultrasound Patient Instructions

  1. You may eat your normal meals the day of the examination.
  2. One hour before your examination you must drink 32 ounces of fluid. Do not empty your bladder before your examination. It is necessary to have a full bladder during the first part of your test.

Thyroid Ultrasound Patient Instructions

  1. No special preparation needed but it is advised to wear a loose fitting shirt that will allow easy access to the neck region.
